Cos d'Estournel 2017

Cos d'Estournel is a prestigious Second Growth estate in the Saint-Estèphe appellation of Bordeaux, celebrated for producing powerful yet elegant red wines. The vineyards, covering around 100 hectares, are planted mainly with Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, along with smaller amounts of Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. The soils of gravel, clay, and limestone give the wines a firm structure, minerality, and the ability to age gracefully.

The 2017 vintage of Cos d’Estournel reflects a classic Saint-Estèphe style with more restrained ripeness compared with warmer years. The growing season was cooler and wetter in parts, resulting in grapes that were slightly less concentrated but very balanced, producing wines with fresh acidity and firm structure. On the nose, the wine shows dark red and black fruits like currants and plums, along with cedar, graphite, subtle spice, and earthy notes. The palate is medium- to full-bodied, with well-defined tannins, a mineral backbone, and layered flavors, giving it a solid structure and long finish.
